![]() Also, I have sensitive skin and I’m allergic to wool, and this is one of the few winter sweaters that I have found that is cozy, comfortable and not itchy.”Īlong with Brennan, fashionistas including former bachelorette and HGTV “Love It or List It Vancouver” star Jillian Harris, Texas-based blogger Bridget Barbier-Mueller and countless others have rocked the ottoman slouchy. ![]() “I wear it with leggings over my tank when I head to Pilates, I wear it with skinny jeans and sneakers on the sidelines of the soccer field, and if I want to dress it up I will pair it with Spanx faux leather leggings and over-the-knee boots. “It’s suitable for any activity of my life,” she tells CNN Underscored, adding that she owns the tunic in six colors. Instagram influencers have hopped on the bandwagon too, with the likes of fashion blogger (and former Ralph Lauren buyer) Kate Brennan of The Chic Series recommending the cozy sweater to her 71,000 Instagram followers. Lastly, the heavy-knit ribbing lends texture, which goes a long way to camouflage any bulges you’re looking to keep under wraps, and it’s a great defense mechanism against spills and stains too. Next up: It’s stretchy! Made of cotton, nylon and spandex, the tunic isn’t a limp noodle instead, it hugs in the right places, despite its slouchy, oversized shape. Roomy and flattering, the cut provides more coverage than a crewneck but in a way that isn’t as constraining as a standard turtleneck. As someone who lives in a cold climate I am going to get more wear out of this in transition seasons or cool summer nights rather than the dead of winter.Your CNN account Log in to your CNN accountĪmong devotees, the Ottoman’s mock neck is one of several design details worth raving about. For the price I think it is expensive for what it is, cotton lounge sweater. I like it and if I lived in a different climate I would get more wear out of it. I do think this is a flattering sweater but perhaps more for weekend not the office. So is the Free People Ottoman Tunic worth the hype? In my opinion not really but I don’t wear leggings all that often and prefer wool to cotton. I wouldn’t say this is a perfect dupe but it is a good one. But perhaps that is due to the sizing as there is less extra fabric to slouch. Also the mock neck seemed to stand up a bit more on it’s own. I didn’t find the fabric as rough at the neck. I did find the Kinley to be softer than the Ottoman. For me I would likely have to size up to get a similar fit to the Ottoman tunic. I find the fit more snug through the bum and hips. I find it fits the same in the shoulders and arms but is a bit less oversized through the body. The Kinley Tunic is a similar ribbed cotton, nylon, spandex blend. Not as cheap as the amazon dupes but half the price of the Ottoman sweater. Another Canadian blogger was raving about this sweater from a Canadian company out west. This and this from amazon look suspiciously similar but reviews show that the fit isn’t the same. There are countless dupes at this point though. I am guessing the tunic style and popularity are what drive the price. Usually for that price I am thinking cashmere not cotton. ![]() ![]() It is $148 USD which comes out to about $200 in CAD. The Free People Ottoman sweater is not exactly cheap. However I found it the right weight and warmth for a cool spring day. And it wasn’t nearly as warm as the cashmere or wool sweaters I usually wear. I found the neckline itchy compared to my cashmere or even other wool sweaters. I got this sweater originally in the dead of winter and I didn’t end up wearing it for two reasons. I don’t think the Ottoman tunic is particularly warm. I like this neckline and it would be great if you don’t love snug turtlenecks but want something more than a crew neck. The mock neck is very wide and while not rigid does mostly stay up on it’s own. I like that it isn’t snug on my bum and hips. I could easily size down but it wouldn’t drape the same. I have loads of room in this sweater through the body. You don’t really notice that the sleeve is a snug fit compared to the rest of the sweater because of the stretchy fabric. The arms fit slim but there is more room in the shoulder due to the drop sleeve. Size wise I took my usual size and got a large. The sweater comes in a range of colours that seem to change frequently aside from a few staple colours like black.
